Me: "Oh awesome a new nuker build for mesmers"

*sees fragility*

FFFFUUUUUUUU

Fragility is a poor skill to rely on for damage. It is only effective against staionary targets who don't have hex removal/condition removal/interupts. Which in most elite areas is very very hard to come by. Because the only reason you would need to use a spike nuke build on a mesmer is in elite areas, of which COP is still better.

A mesmer running a noob Sig of Illusion build would be more reliable.

Thumbs up Thank you..

This guide is very good..
I give it a A++
^_^

I just started the game and chose my character as a mesmer.. Then later I noticed from boards that mesmer is as considered one of the most difficult professions to play with..
It was also considered as one of the most fun and it sure is..
I now play only for PvE, but in there Mesmer seems to be great character..

I don't like whacking people so warrior was never a choice..
And why would I use the muscles when I have the brains.. Just a little of Backfire/Empathy etc. and you can watch how the enemy destroys itself from the frustration

PS. As for what it comes to a melee damage and diverting the attacks.. Fortunately I have always with me my all so faithful pet. So sometimes the pet can take the melee damage while I mess with the targets (with Empathy etc.)..

A very helpful guide. I've just made my first mesmer, & am looking forward to trying it out.

I noted in the discussion of secondaries, that necromancer was mentioned as being a common combination with mes and as using the same kinds of skills. Yet there were no examples of a Mes/Necro build. Would it be possible to add some - or even one?

You'll want to look into Curses for good necro options.
Barbs, Enfeebling Blood, Shadow Of Fear, Reckless Haste, Mark Of Pain, Rip Enchantment, Defile Defences - anything else I missed?

I've been lately running a bit of a Curses/Inspiration/Illusion mix.
Barbs
Shadow Of Fear
Enfeebling Blood
Conjure Nightmare
Tease
Power Drain
Drain Enchantment
optional - could be anything from the skills I mentioned above, to even stuff like Necrosis, Clumsiness or Inspired Hex

In my opinion, most of the skills from the Sabway Hexer (http://pvx.wikia.com/wiki/Sabway#SS_Necro) that are necro-based would work well. Spiteful spirit, Barbs, Mark of Pain, Defile Defences etc. You could leave out SS and Rip Enchantment to use a more powerful Mesmer hex, such as Visions of Regret, Drain Enchantment etc. If running Sabway, you could run a similiar build to the SS necro, and use another hero instead. If doing this, try to use Lyssa's Aura as a way to gain energy, because the necro's would use their Soul Reaping attribute to gain energy.

Will the skills in this wonderful guide be updated in this guide after the big mesmer skill revamp?

I've never been great in the art of builds so I need all the help I can get, Thanks,

What comes to my own posts, I doubt it.
I am not very good at keeping tracks of my posts and even worse in keeping track on the changes in skills. I usually play for fun and I have no need to make my build 100% efficient..
So that is why I am not a good person to ask about build advices..

Anyway..
If someone sees my post here that is not up to date anymore, just let me know. I will delete the post or update it if I think that is necessary.

Default Need Help Understanding the Build Terms

Hello,

I'm lost while going through section "8. Common/Tested Mesmer Builds." I don't understand the stuff like "Prof=" and what follows. Further, what is 12+1+1?

Thanks very much,

Starkman

The "prof=..." stuff is old forum code that isn't functional anymore. If you ignore the code bits that don't make sense you should be able to pick out the attribute+skill info. I'll go through the stickies now and clear it up. Apologies for the confusion.

In regards to 12+1+1, it means to invest 12 points in the attribute, then get +1 from a minor rune of that attribute and then another +1 from a piece of headgear with that bonus. If you're, as it seems, in pre-searing, you won't have been exposed to these yet. It'll be more obvious when you leave.
